Amy Van Dyken is an American swimmer, multiple world champion, and six-time Olympic gold medalist.
Born on February 15, 1973, in Englewood, Colorado, USA, Van Dyken suffered from asthma as a child. Upon the advice of her doctor, she took up swimming to improve lung function and prevent future asthma attacks.
Van Dyken quickly excelled in the sport, setting records and competing with a team of swimmers in the state of Colorado.
